SmileCosts is free to read. Here is exactly how the site is funded — in plain language.
How we make money
- Display advertising. Some pages show ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are labeled and visually separated from our content. We do not choose which advertisers appear. How the underlying cookies work — and how to control them — is covered in our privacy policy.
- Partner links. Some guides contain links to products or services (for example, teeth-whitening products or dental clinics). If we may earn a commission when you buy or enquire through such a link, the link is clearly marked and disclosed on the page where it appears.
- Our own app. Most pages carry ads, each labeled "Ad", for WakeYa, an alarm clock app from a company affiliated with SmileCosts's publisher: in the side columns on wide screens, between an article and its FAQ, at the end of the page, at the top of the footer, and on phones as a small bar at the bottom of the screen that you can close. No third party pays us to show them, and they have nothing to do with dental care. They never appear inside an article's text, on our dental emergency guide, or on our legal pages. They are plain links with images stored on this site: they load nothing from outside it and set no cookies. Closing the phone bar is remembered for a week in your browser's own storage; nothing is sent anywhere.
What we don't do
- We do not accept payment to change a price estimate, a ranking, or a recommendation.
- We do not promote or earn commissions from credit products, loans, financing plans, or insurance sign-ups.
- We do not write "sponsored" articles disguised as editorial content.
Why you can trust the numbers anyway
Our revenue depends on readers finding our research accurate and coming back — not on any particular provider being chosen. Advertisers have no access to content before publication and no say in what we publish. See our editorial policy for how estimates are built.
